LGBT History month: Thanks for your support

As LGBT History month draws to a close, we wanted to thank you for stopping by our display of LGBT books and DVDs and for your positive comments.

Just because the display is coming down doesn’t mean you can’t still access some of our latest additions to stock.

Why not borrow one of our DVDs?

Milk tells the story of American activist Harvey Milk, while Before Stonewall examines the gay community before the Stonewall riot in New York.

Pride brings to life the experiences of a group of London-based LGBT activists who provided support to miners during the strike in the 1980s.

LGBT History Month: Good as You

If you haven’t visited our display of books and DVDs for LGBT History Month there is still time. We look forward to seeing you in the welcome area of the library.

Why not have a look at one of our latest editions to stock? Good As You by Paul Flynn covers 30 years of gay life in Britain and includes “candid interviews from major protagonists, such as Kylie, Russell T Davies, Will Young, Holly Johnson and Lord Chris Smith, as well as the relative unknowns crucial to the gay community”.

LGBT History month: Icons & everyday heroes

February is LGBT history month and during the month we will be highlighting some of our LGBT themed books and DVDs.

Among our recent additions to stock is Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas’s autobiography Proud.  Described by The Guardian as “achingly honest” it tells the story of Gareth’s struggle with his sexuality and what it was like to come out as a famous sportsman.

Pride & Joy: LGBTQ activists, icons and everyday heroes tells the stories of writers such as Emma Donoghue (author of Room which was subsequently made into an Oscar winning film) and everyday heroes like firefighters, scientists and business people being true to themselves and living their lives openly in the community.

If you haven’t had a chance already why not stop by our display of LGBT books and DVDs in the welcome area of the library or view our online list of recent LGBT eBooks.
