Good news! We have renewed all loan items until 5th October so you still don’t need to worry about returning library items while the University Campus is closed.
However, if you are leaving Aberdeen and need to return items and it is convenient and safe for you to do so, there are two methods that can be used.
- Two drop-off points have been set up at the RGU student residences at Crathie and Woolmanhill. Please see our previous blogpost for more details of how this works. Any items returned to the residences will be kept there until the Library reopens so they will not be discharged from your account until then.
We are unable to provide a drop-off point on the Garthdee campus but Crathie Student Village at 515-519 Holburn Street is quite nearby. Click on the link for a Google map with directions from the Library to the residence.
- Items can also be returned by post as mail services are still running to the Garthdee campus. The Library team check for mail on a weekly basis so these items will be discharged from your Library account. Packages should be addressed to University Library, Sir Ian Wood Building, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, AB10 7GJ. We recommend that you ask for a receipt of postage and retain it until you receive an email receipt of return. Please note that we cannot reimburse postage costs.
Don’t forget that, although the physical library may be closed, staff are still available to answer your enquiries and to help with referencing, research skills or RefWorks- just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
All of the Library online resources continue to be available as normal. You can access millions of resources via LibrarySearch or the databases that the Library subscribes to.

RGU Library and ResLife have set up two drop-off points that can be used by anyone who wants to return their RGU Library books whilst the university is closed.
The ResLife team at the Crathie Student Village and Woolmanhill Flats will accept Library items between 9am-3pm Monday-Friday. Anyone wishing to return items should call the number on the door of the residence and advise the team that you have Library items. Please ensure that social distancing is maintained whilst dropping off items.
Items returned at the drop-off points won’t show as returned on Library accounts until after the university reopens. Students may still receive overdue emails or notices about these items. Please just ignore these notices and the Library team will process the items as soon as we return to work on campus.
The ResLife team won’t be able to answer any questions about Library items or services. Please contact the Library team by email if you have a query.
For any students who are unable to get to the drop-off points, or if you have left Aberdeen already and still have your books with you, please just retain the books until further notice. There will be no recalls during the period that the university is closed and books on loan will automatically be renewed for most students.
For students with a course expiry date in the next few months, please try to use the drop-off points if you can. If this is not possible, please retain the items and return them after the university reopens.
Due to the evolving Covid-19 situation we may need to discontinue the drop-off scheme at short notice.
